Increasing parents’ confidence and skills to protect and care for their children.
Staff recognised that many parents need advice and support to care for their children. They understood how important it is for parents to learn how to help their children behave well. Managers and staff wanted to make sure that help and support was widely available to parents who asked for it and that they could get help quickly to prevent any problems getting worse.
Staff from health, social work, education and voluntary services have been trained to help parents through Triple P, a tried and tested programme widely used across the country. Parents can get this help in groups with other parents or on a one-to-one basis. The Triple P project has been advertised widely in the local papers and on the radio.
So far, over 300 families have benefited from the Triple P programme in Orkney. Many parents report feeling more confident in caring for their children as a result. They have learned new skills to help them meet their children’s needs. Children have also reported improvements in family life after their parents have attended the programme.
