Vision and leadership focuses on developing a common vision and fostering high quality leadership at all levels.

Schools and centres must develop a shared vision to ensure a common purpose and a focus on preparing young people for the future.

Leadership should focus on the core business of learning and teaching. Great leaders have a deep understanding of change and how to guide and manage change that leads to improving outcomes for young people.

  • 'My school report' at Inveravon Primary School
    Video in which children and teachers explain how learners at Inveravon Primary School use weekly reflections to set themselves targets for skills they want to develop. They also set themselves longer term targets and write an annual report. The process allows them to take responsibility for their learning, assess how they have developed their strengths, think about strategies to address the areas where they are less strong and develop resilience.   • Building skills at Kersland School
    Video in which the staff of Kersland School outline their vision of the school as centre of excellence. In addition to helping young people to gain SQA and ASDAN qualifications, they focus on skills for life, including using a 'flat' where young people can develop practical, independent living skills like cooking, washing clothes and cleaning. In this video the headteacher discusses tools like How Good is Our School, Journey to Excellence, Learning Rounds and Three Horizons, but stresses that the tools are only as good as how they are used.
